Pillsbury’s clients include Amazon in its acquisition of Twitch, gaming companies including Activision Blizzard, Riot Games, Concept Art House, Electronic Arts, Manticore Games, Perfect World Entertainment Inc., Bluepoint Games, Golf Scope (publisher of Golf+), Unknown Worlds Entertainment Inc., N3twork and Valve Corporation, and eSports teams such as Cloud9, 100 Thieves and Flashpoint.

Representative Experience

  • Represented Manticore Games Inc. in its formation, financings, day-to-day corporate work, IP and more recently its $100 million Series C financing led by XN (as well as all of its prior funding rounds, bringing Manticore’s total funding to $160 million).
  • Representing Riot Games in connection with various investments including Wicked Saint Studios’ $3.5 million Series Seed financing as co-lead investor and Stoke Games’ $5.5 million funding round.
  • Represented Matt Kalish, president and co-founder of DraftKings North America, in connection with the $11 million investment in FaZe Media, a joint venture formed by GameSquare and Matt Kalish.

  • Represented Everi Holdings Inc., a premier provider of land-based and digital casino gaming content and products, in its pending $6.2 billion merger with International Game Technology PLC as well as numerous acquisitions including Intuicode Gaming.
  • Represented Amazon Inc. as special tax counsel in its $970 million acquisition of Twitch, a leading video platform and community for gamers.
  • Represented Bluepoint Games, a premier developer with a history of developing critically-acclaimed remasters and remakes for PlayStation consoles, in connection with its acquisition by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
  • Defended Valve Corporation, the Seattle-based video game development and digital distribution company and operators of the Steam gaming platform, against a number of patent infringement claims.
  • Represented FLASHPOINT in its launch as the world’s first Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament owned and operated by team organizations.
  • Represented Concept Art House Inc., a leading content developer and publisher for some of the world’s most recognizable nonfungible token (NFT) collectibles and video game art, in its $25 million Series A financing from leading investors, NFT platforms and angel investors, including prominent CEOs and tech founders and in its acquisition by Zattikka PLC (and subsequently represented the former).
  • Represented Golf Scope, the developers of Golf+, a VR golf platform, in its $6 million Series Seed financing with investors including Tom Brady, Steph Curry and other athlete investors and various licensing and related transactions.
  • Provided general counseling to clients related to intellectual property issues surrounding online gaming and social media companies, including protecting and enforcing IP rights.
  • Represented numerous independent videogame companies in publishing, joint venture and venture-sharing transactions.
