Steven Green, a Bay Area Corporate lawyer who is deeply embedded in the life sciences, biotechnology and tech-enabled healthcare startup communities, has joined Pillsbury’s Silicon Valley office as partner. The firm brings on Green, previously a partner at Goodwin Procter, after a year in which Stifel reports life sciences venture equity investment surged to more than $50 billion—the sector’s second most active year ever.

“Our market-leading Emerging Companies & Venture Capital practice has been among the most active participants in the Life Sciences & Digital Health sector for many years,” said Pillsbury Chair David Dekker. “As our global client base in the industry continues to grow, we’re committed to ensuring it continues its long tradition of innovation and resiliency. Steven is an excellent steward for the next batch of groundbreaking Life Sciences companies, and we’re pleased to welcome him to the team.”

Green advises emerging growth companies in the life sciences and technology industries across the full spectrum of business and legal issues throughout their corporate lifecycles. He serves as a trusted advisor and guides his clients through company formation, early-stage financings, employment and executive compensation matters, capital raisings, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and initial public offerings. He also represents venture capital firms and strategic investors in structuring and executing investments in cutting-edge companies across the innovation economy.

Green’s transactional work spans a wide range of industries and deal structures, with a focus on high-growth sectors such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, digital health, software and enterprise technologies. His practical, business-oriented approach enables clients to navigate evolving legal and regulatory frameworks while advancing their strategic objectives.

“With cutting-edge innovation at its root, the Life Sciences & Digital Health industry has been a focus at Pillsbury for many years,” said Christina Pearson, the Global Co-Head of Pillsbury’s Corporate & Securities practice. “Steven has worked with some of the most exciting new companies and entrepreneurs in biotechnology and tech-enabled healthcare, having forged strong relationships with a vast network of founders, VCs, scientists and incubators across this space. We are excited to have him on board.”

Pillsbury has been actively growing its Life Sciences and Digital Health capabilities. In recent months, the firm has welcomed six corporate partners who focus on the sector, including Green in Silicon Valley; Hamid Yunis in London; Andy Smetana in Austin; Jia Yan in China; Lillian Kim in New York; and Matt Kirmayer in San Francisco. Other important partner additions whose practices are closely connected with the sector include Laurence Lieberman (International Disputes), Jay Konkel (Insurance Litigation) and Audrey Koh (Corporate Investigations & White Collar Defense).

The firm has also seen a steady flow of notable new arrivals in Northern California, with Green and renowned appellate lawyer Anne Voigts joining previously in Silicon Valley, and San Francisco adding the data privacy and digital transformation team of Jeewon Serrato and Shruti Bhutani Arora as well as veteran employment litigator JoAnna Brooks.

Upon his arrival, Green noted: “I have known the folks at Pillsbury for many years. They get what I do and have some of the world’s deepest connections in the competitive world of emerging growth and venture capital. I look forward to being a part of their collaborative and entrepreneurial culture, much as my clients value the same things.”

Pillsbury has a long-standing legacy as one of the Life Sciences & Digital Health industry’s premier legal advisors, dating back to the first-ever biotech IPO and continuing up through today. Our Emerging Company & Venture Capital practice—ranked in the Top-6 for VC financings worldwide—is regularly engaged to advise sector clients on company formation, venture capital financings, corporate governance, IPOs, mergers & acquisitions, tech transactions, strategic collaborations and licensing agreements, while other leading Life Sciences & Digital Health practitioners at the firm enable clients to navigate global sourcing issues, Intellectual Property protections, HIPAA and other data privacy laws, and a host of litigation and enforcement matters.
