In a strategic move that further enhances its Global Sourcing & Technology Transactions practice, the largest customer-focused sourcing and tech transactions team at any law firm worldwide, Pillsbury has brought on leading practitioner Adam Chernichaw as a partner in its New York office. Chernichaw joins Pillsbury from A&O Shearman, where he served as the U.S. head of its digital, data, intellectual property and technology practice.

“The companies we represent are working aggressively to both harness emerging technologies and mitigate the commercial risks that may accompany them,” said Firm Chair David Dekker. “Our excellent team of tech transactions lawyers is playing a critical role in helping clients understand, implement and enable digital transformation, and Adam’s arrival helps to further address their growing needs. He has a standout reputation, a lengthy track record of concluding innovative and high-value deals, and will fit right in as part of our market-leading Global Sourcing & Technology Transactions team.”

Chernichaw, who is nationally ranked by Chambers & Partners for Technology, Fintech and Outsourcing, excels in structuring complex and transformative commercial transactions that help clients achieve their digital objectives. He represents both buy- and sell-side entities across Technology, Financial, Life Sciences and Digital Health, Travel and Hospitality, Sports and other industries seeking strategic alliances and product integrations.

He frequently advises clients who are pioneering and collaborating on the development and launch of groundbreaking technologies, with a particularly strong reputation in tech transactions involving fintech, including payments, digital assets, blockchain platforms and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). He has extensive experience across digital transformations, information technology, business processing outsourcing, system integrations, cloud and “as-a-service” solutions and payment processing services. Additionally, his work spans complex areas such as banking identification number (BIN) sponsorship arrangements, peer-to-peer (P2P) payments systems, mergers and acquisitions and strategic joint ventures.

“Adam has demonstrated a consistent ability to help companies source and deploy the right tools, technologies and platforms to accelerate business,” said Elizabeth Zimmer, head of Global Sourcing & Technology Transactions at Pillsbury. “Whether in connection with AI, payments, blockchain, crypto, the cloud or digital assets, he brings substantial experience to our firm and a seasoned hand to our clients that reinforces our established strength in tech transactions in the U.S. and globally.”

Chernichaw’s arrival comes amid a substantial expansion of Pillsbury’s partner ranks globally, with the firm having welcomed 21 laterals since the start of 2024. In New York alone, the firm has added seven new partners over the past 12 months, with Chernichaw following the additions of renowned tax partner Mark Leeds; bank and leveraged finance partner Robert Stein; mergers and acquisitions dealmaker Adam Rachlis; former Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Chris Caffarone; tax practitioner Larry Sannicandro; and corporate restructuring lawyer Michael Burke.

“It’s an honor to join Pillsbury’s Global Sourcing & Technology Transactions group, which is consistently counted among the world’s top outsourcing advisory teams,” Chernichaw said. “I look forward to working with the firm’s standout practitioners—in relation to its tech transactions practice and so many others—to serve the needs of client operating in the Technology, Financial, Digital Health & Life Sciences and other fast-moving sectors.”
