In a recent interview with WFAE Charlotte Talks radio host Mike Collins, Energy partner Jeff Merrifield discussed the sudden siren that sounded recently from the McGuire Nuclear Station in North Carolina, which was later ruled as a false alarm.

However, as North Carolina’s interest in nuclear energy continues to grow, including expanding licenses on existing plants and developing new ones, Merrifield emphasized the importance that both the public and plant employees understand proper procedures, such as safety drills, in the possible event of a nuclear emergency.

“This is not the first time this has happened,” Merrifield said. “I do remember one example at Seabrook Station Nuclear Power Plant in New Hampshire where a similar siren situation occurred. People self-evacuated to a beach nearby. So, it can cause concern and people, understandably, get anxious when you hear the alarms.”
