Pillsbury has appointed Marques O. Peterson as Office Managing Partner in Washington, D.C., the firm’s largest office. Peterson takes the reins from Jeffrey Grill, who for the past seven years has led the firm’s growth in the nation’s capital.
“Since joining our firm, Marques has been a partner in the truest sense of the word,” said Firm Chair David Dekker. “He is an excellent lawyer, a committed leader and a willing collaborator who strives to make Pillsbury a better firm, both for clients and the talented professionals who work here.”
Peterson is a government contracts attorney who represents large defense contractors and other clients, advising on a myriad of compliance issues. He regularly counsels clients doing business internationally on matters such as compliance with anti-bribery/anti-corruption laws, export controls, national security issues and economic sanctions, and has represented government contractors before international arbitration tribunals. He has significant experience in bid protests and contract performance disputes before the Government Accountability Office, the Court of Federal Claims and the Boards of Contract Appeals.
Peterson already holds several important leadership positions within Pillsbury, serving as the leader of the firmwide Attorneys of Color Network and as a member of the firm’s Nominating Committee and Board Committee for the Advancement of Diverse Attorneys.
“I am so honored and excited by this opportunity to lead Pillsbury’s Washington, D.C., office,” said Peterson. “Jeff and many others have done so much to nurture the tight-knit culture that exists here, and I’m looking forward to building on that strong foundation to push our presence in the District to the next level.”
Prior to entering private practice, Peterson was an active-duty officer serving in the Air Force Office of General Counsel at the Pentagon, where he counseled senior leaders on numerous acquisition-related matters. He is an active author and speaker, teaches government contracts courses for the Public Contracting Institute and The George Washington University Law School, and serves in a variety of leadership position for the American Bar Association’s Public Contract Law Section’s International Procurement Committee.
Jeffrey Grill, who represents publicly and privately held companies in a wide range of corporate finance, securities, M&A, and general corporate matters, took on the position of Washington, D.C. Office Managing Partner in April 2014.
Dekker noted: “For almost seven years, Jeff has done an outstanding job of leading our Washington, D.C., office. Particularly over the past two, in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, his thoughtful guidance and dedication have helped maintain a sense of community and drive high performance. I am grateful for all he has contributed to the success of our firm.”
