Pillsbury has been recognized as one of the top restructuring firms in the world in Global Restructuring Review’s prestigious eighth annual GRR100 guide for 2024. This year, the guide, which highlights the leading law firms for cross-border restructurings and insolvencies, featured 156 firms from 40 jurisdictions worldwide.
The recognition reflects Pillsbury’s significant role in multiple landmark restructuring matters during the most recent review period, including its pivotal work on the Chapter 11 restructuring of Colombian-Panamanian aviation group Avianca. Representing key clients such as Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale and Airbus, the firm played a central role in Avianca’s successful restructuring, which was approved by a New York court in November 2021 and saw the group relocate to the UK.
The guide highlighted other notable achievements, such as the firm’s advisement of Rockley Photonics on its Chapter 11 plan; the representation of foreign representatives in South African airline Comair’s Chapter 15 process obtaining disclosures from Boeing; and the representation of an ad hoc group of U.S. states in Purdue Pharma’s high-profile bankruptcy, which resulted in a 2024 U.S. Supreme Court decision holding that the Bankruptcy Code does not authorize third-party non-consensual releases of creditor claims against non-debtors, among other significant matters.
In addition to the firm's prestigious ranking, several members of the restructuring practice were highlighted as top professionals in the field. Practice section leader Andrew Troop, along with partners Rahman Connelly, Patrick Fitzmaurice, Hugh McDonald and John Pintarelli, all based in New York, were singled out as “names to know” in the industry. Dania Slim (Palm Beach), Joshua Morse (San Francisco), Patrick Potter (Washington, DC) and Hugh Ray, III (Houston) also received recognition as leading partners within the practice.
The profile also highlights exceptional client feedback, with one client praising the firm for its team of “true collaborators” who are “highly commercial and outstanding litigators.” John Pintarelli and Patrick Fitzmaurice received particular accolades, with one client lauding John as “probably the hardest-working lawyer [they] have ever worked with,” while another commended Patrick for his ability to “remain calm and composed under pressure,” a quality described as “the hallmark of only the very best.”
