Pillsbury, along with more than 100 law firm and legal department leaders, recently participated in Diversity Lab’s “Moments to Movements Hackathon”—a shark tank-style pitch competition where teams offer their innovative plans to defend and fortify diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the legal profession. The teams were given five months to collaborate on their proposed solutions focused on community inclusive talent systems.

At the event, the participating teams pitched their ideas to a dozen judges and more than 200 spectators.

Insurance Recovery & Advisory partner Joseph Jean—joined by Amy Melican, the vice president and deputy general counsel at Tapestry, Jennifer Goodwin, counsel at Victaulic Company, and others—participated on the Career Catalyst team.

The team’s Career Catalyst Program would bridge the gap between mentorship and sponsorship programs by pairing high-potential, mid-level lawyers with experienced in-house counsel leaders. The program would also provide structured support, advocacy and exposure to senior leaders, and empower mid-level lawyers to navigate complex career paths and reach their full potential.

Following the judges’ deliberation, the team was recognized for its design initiative because it included aspects involving the firm and its clients.
