Thomas Howard maintains a diverse general complex commercial litigation practice, representing clients in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels.
Thomas has experience handling a wide variety of complex civil matters, including antitrust, RICO, fraud, commercial contract, employment, attorney malpractice and First Amendment disputes. He serves clients in a broad range of industries, including the real estate, hospitality and higher education sectors. Thomas has experience in all phases of litigation, including pre-suit investigation, complaint drafting, motion practice, trial and appeal. He has briefed numerous appeals in both federal and state courts.

Prior to joining Pillsbury, Thomas clerked for Judge Ronald Lee Gilman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and Judge Karen Gren Scholer of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. He began his legal career as an associate with an elite litigation firm in New York. Before attending law school, Thomas worked for the Center for the Constitution at James Madison’s Montpelier. His award-wining historical scholarship has been published by the University of Virginia Press and the North Carolina Historical Review.
