Reed Trechter focuses his practice on all aspects of complex commercial and bankruptcy litigation.

Reed’s representative experience includes evaluating claims and legal issues, conducting fact investigation, counseling on alternative dispute resolution, developing strategies for and handling discovery, and preparing motions and briefs in state and federal courts and arbitration tribunals.

Representative Experience

Complex Commercial Litigation

  • Represented technology company and its principal in class action brought by former students alleging violations of California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act, Unfair Competition Law and False Advertising Law; successfully removed the case from state court to the Northern District of California; successfully obtained order compelling arbitration and dismissing all claims; continued representation in individual arbitration proceedings.
  • Represented investment company and its principal against breach of contract, quasi-contract, conversion, interference and intentional infliction of emotional distress claims; successfully obtained dismissal of all clams at the pleading stage.

Bankruptcy Litigation

  • Representing bankruptcy trustee as special litigation counsel and judgment creditors as counsel in adversary proceeding against chapter 7 debtor’s former insiders and affiliates; obtained summary judgment avoiding and recovering $46 million in fraudulent transfer; obtained successful settlement of remaining claims, approved by the Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California.

  • Representing former affiliate of chapter 11 debtor defending $94 million fraudulent transfer lawsuit brought by litigation trust created by debtor’s confirmed chapter 11 plan of reorganization in the Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.
  • Represented largest creditor in complex chapter 11 bankruptcy involving the leading Akaushi beef provider, resulting in 100% cash escrow for client’s claim in the Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.
  • Other Notable Matters
    • Representing Eagle Ford mineral and royalty owner in dispute with oil and gas operator.
    • Represented gas company in diligence related to the purchase of assets from the United States government.
    • Represented pro bono client defending claims brought under the International Child Abduction Remedies Act and the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction; obtained complete defense judgment after a multi-day trial in the Southern District of Texas.
